Light Science Technologies Holdings PLC (AIM:LST) has secured a patent for its environmental sensor, a move the company said will support future product development and create new recurring revenue streams for its ‘AgTech’ operation.
The AIM-listed group said the patent covers its sensorGRO technology, which monitors conditions around both the leaves and roots of plants.
The system is already being used by clients including Dyson Farming Research, Bridge Farm Horticulture and Jepco, helping growers optimise yields in both indoor and large-scale outdoor farming.
The company said the patent will serve as a foundation for broader sensor applications in areas such as water and air pollution, as well as carbon emissions. Customers will be able to customise systems to suit their needs, adding individual sensor modules as required.
LSTH also announced an initial order through a distribution agreement for a new LED lighting installation.
The project involves more than 400 lights tailored for a glasshouse of over 0.8 hectares, where they will be used to grow lettuce on a moving gutter system. The installation is expected to be operational in early 2026.
The company said it continues to focus on expanding its global presence through distribution partnerships that provide access to growth markets at low cost and risk.
Its pipeline of potential orders now stands at over £44 million, driven by demand for products that help reduce waste, boost crop yields and extend growing seasons.
“We are extremely excited by the AgTech opportunity and believe the patent award and new contract, in conjunction with one of our partners, highlight the progress we are making,” said CEO Simon Deacon.
“Importantly, we are growing our portfolio, reach and routes to market as we focus on further commercialising our strong pipeline and developing revenue streams.”
As part of its growth strategy, LSTH has appointed Nick Green to lead sensor sales and strengthen customer relationships. He brings 25 years of experience in the fresh produce sector, having worked at firms including Florette UK & Ireland and Shockingly Fresh.
The company will be presenting at the Mello2025 investor event in London on 3 June and exhibiting at the GreenTech horticulture show in Amsterdam later this month.
